Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

dry-needling Dry Needling is the form of treatment where small, single-use, disposable needles are inserted into regions of the body to release pressure from muscle knots and trigger points.  It varies greatly from Acupuncture, as it is more of a concentrated treatment to the affected area, whereas Acupuncture treats more of the body as a whole.

Dry Needling is a much shorter treatment as well, as the purpose is to activate the muscles via an in-and-out technique.  We treat shoulder, gluteal/piriformis, elbow (tennis elbow or golfer's elbow), lower back, neck, midback, knee and other areas by inserting the needles to each affected region manually moving the needle in and out for approximately 30 seconds.

Everyone suffers aches and pains from time to time. Sometimes, it’s not a big deal and the pains go away. However, many people find that their aches continue to return and even get worse over time. When you work with a chiropractor, you don’t have to endure pain or live in dread of its return. If you or your loved ones live near Scottsdale, AZ, then you should try dry needling. Dr. Jon Tanner has helped countless local residents secure lasting pain relief with this treatment method and other forms of chiropractic care.

A Quick Look at Dry Needling

Dry needling involves the insertion of thin needles (usually made of stainless steel) into trigger points. These points are areas in your body where your muscles have become tense and often tender, producing lingering aches and pains. They may limit your mobility as well. By inserting a needle into the trigger point, it may be possible to relieve the tension and resolve the knot.

There are a few different ways to perform this treatment. The most common method is to insert the needles and then leave them in for 20 to 30 minutes. You can also quickly insert and remove the needles. Further, in some situations, a practitioner may insert the needle into surrounding tissues, rather than directly into the knot.

The right method often comes down to the specifics of the patient and their condition. By working with experts like Dr. Tanner, you can ensure that you get the best form of care customized to your needs. If you’re looking for dry needling services in Scottsdale, AZ, get in touch.

Is Dry Needling Acupuncture?

Sometimes dry needling is confused with acupuncture, but in practice, these are two different treatments with different objectives, although both are used for pain relief. Modern acupuncture primarily focuses on the release of endorphins, while adherents to ancient acupuncture emphasize the flow of Qi energy. Dry needling seeks to relieve muscle tension. Along the way, this could also stimulate the release of endorphins, but in a sense, that’s a secondary consideration.

Many patients find both dry needling and acupuncture to be effective. Crucially, both forms of care focus on harnessing your body’s natural healing powers. This can lead to a quicker recovery and lasting pain relief.
